Abd AL Malik B Marwan B AL Hakam (26 H - 86 H) عبد الملك بن مروان بن الحكم
Born in 26 H, an Umawi, he was only sixteen when Mu`awiyya (ra) appointed him the governor of Madinah. A practicing learned Muslim; he became Khalifah after the death of his father, Marwan al-Hakam, to prove himself a hard metal against his opponents. It was during his tenure that the struggle with `Abdullah B AL-Zubayr ensued to end in the defeat of the latter at the hands of Hajjaj al-Yusuf. He was the first in Islam to issue Dinars after `Umar b. al-Khattab had coined Dirhams. He died in Dimashq after 21 years of rule in 86 H.
