Merits of Friday according to Ahadith and Quran E Hakeem

For Muslims Friday is a very important day. It is the best day of the week and the leader of all the days. It is like a weekly Eid for Muslims. As we know that it is a special day so it has its own special merits. These merits are mentioned in many Ahadith.

It is narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurrairah (RA) that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) said that:-

“The best day on which the sun rises is Friday; on it Adam (AS) was created; and on it, he descended on earth; and on it, his repentance was accepted; and on it, he died; and on it, the Hour will be established…..”

This thing can be understood that this day is not a new thing for Ummat E Muslimah. This day was special for those too who was existing before us. It is a weekend but not t he weekend for modern world. It is a holy day and the world Holiday is derived from the holy day.

It is narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurrairah (RA) that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) said that:-

“We are the last but the foremost on the Day of Resurrection, though the former nations were given the Scripture before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which (i.e. Friday prayer etc.) was made compulsory for them, but they differed about it. So, Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews’ (holy day is) the following day (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians’ (is) the day after the following day (i.e. Sunday)”

In this Hadith very important information is given. We can say that for Muslim the concept of weekend on Saturday and Sunday is wrong. For Muslims Friday is a special day so we should concentrate on this day.

We can judge the importance of Friday by this, that one whole chapter is dedicated to this single day by Allah Allmighty in Quran E Hakeem which is Surah Al-Juma’a, Chapter No. 62. In this surah it is said that:-

When the call to Prayer is proclaimed on Friday

“O those who have believed! When the call to Prayer is proclaimed on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah20 and leave off trade. That is better for you if you but knew”

In an Hadith it is said that there is one hour in Friday in which the supplications are accepted. It is narrated by Jabir Bin Abdullah (RA) that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) said that:-

Friday has twelve – meaning hours – to it. There is no Muslim who asks Allah for anything (during it) except that Allah gives it to him, so seek it during the last hour after Asr.”

Let’s say thanks to Allah Almighty that he granted us such a great blessing on Friday. May Allah if we are walking on wrong path show us the right path, purify our intention and fill our hearts with Imaan. (Ameen)!
