How we should behave with our parents?
Allah has granted many blessings to us. From these blessings Parents are most important blessing. Parents are given the honorable status in all the societies and religion. We all remain indebted to our parents. They spent the most of their life to nourish us and to fulfill our needs. So definitely we should behave well with them. In Quran Hakeem Allah Almighty has many time says that we should behave with parents with well manners. At one place it is said that:-
“ Your Lord has decreed that you shall worship none but Him, and (that you shall treat) the parents with kindness. Whether one or both of them attain old age with you, then, say not to them (even) an ‘Oof,’ nor repel them, rather, speak to them noble words”.
• Be grateful to your parents
We should show gratitude to your parents. It is one of the best principles of good manners. Gratitude shows the acknowledgement of debt. We should be thankful to our parents for everything, for kindness, for love, for care and for sacrifices. Allah Almighty has said in Quran E Hakeem that we should be thankful to Allah Almighty and our parents as at one place it is said that:-
“And We have charged man concerning his parents - his mother bore him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years – that, ‘Be thankful to Me and to your parents. Unto Me is your (final) destination.”
It is narrated by Hazrat Abu Ayub Khalid Ibn Zaid Al-Ansari that:-
“A man requested; "Prophet (S.A.W)! Tell me the action which will get me admitted to Paradise and keep me away from the Hell." He answered: "Worship Almighty and do not associate anybody with Him: establish Prayer; pay Zakat and join the ties of kinship."
• Show the tolerance
We should show tolerance toward our parents. We should not talk to them with rude behavior. We should not use those words which can hurt them especially when they become old. In old age they demands different and unusual things so we should not treat them with ill manners. We should remember our childhood’s time when we used to demand different things and they provided us those things. In Quran E Hakeem at one place it is said that we should not even say “uff” to them.
• Love your parents with honor
We should love with our parents and show honor to them. It is narrated by Hadrat Ibn E Abbas that Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) said that:-
"Dutiful and good natured children who cast one loving and affectionate look at their parents, receive from The Almighty blessing equivalent to one approved Hajj (pilgrimage)."
• Do pray for your parents
We should pray for our parents. If they are not in these worlds we should pray a lot for their forgiveness. They wait in their grave for this gift and it is the only gift which we can give them if they are dead. In Quran E Hakeem it is said that:-
“Lower to them the wing of humbleness in mercy and say, ‘My Lord, have mercy upon them even as they raised me up (with care) when I was little.”
May Allah give us power to show kind, respect and obedience to our parents. (Amen)
