The Affects of Excessive Laughter

The Affects of Excessive Laughter

Islam is a practical religion. It does not say people to react as angels but it demands to react as ideal human beings with moral values. Islam does not say that every time we should talk about religion and we should listen the recitation of Quran E hakeem every time. Islam is not against laughing and jokes. Holy Prophet was used to make good jokes with his companions. But here the discussion is about excessive laughter. It is a problem especially among the youth. It is said by Holy Prophet (PBUH) that:-

“Do not laugh too much, for excessive laughter kills the heart (i.e., spiritually).”

Whenever we go in gatherings with friends or colleagues we laugh too much. Laughter is not Haram in Islam but the excessive laughter is forbidden. At another place it is said by Holy Prophet (PBUH) that:-

“Too much laughter corrupts the heart.”

It is being told to us that excessive laughter kills and corrupts the heart even then we laugh its mean we are pushing ourselves toward the deep valley of sadness. Whenever we laugh too much later on we feel sadness. So we should avoid excessive laughter. Here the question is how can we avoid excessive laughter? We can avoid it and it’s not so much difficult.

How can we avoid excessive laughter?

We can avoid excessive laughter by realizing its bad effects. We should keep in mind if we will laugh too much our heart will become corrupt and a believer’s heart can’t be corrupt. Sometime we laugh much to get rid from stress and worries. Whenever we feel stress we go to attend a party with friends. There we laugh much and feels that our stress is going off. But later on when we go away from them we feel again that stress. So we should keep in mind that laughter cannot give us the internal satisfaction. There is something else that can solve our problems and give us the internal satisfaction and that thing is Dhikar. Being a Muslim we should treat with worries by utilizing the way which Holy prophet (PBUH) told. Whenever we feel stress we should do Dhikar of :-

• Remembering of death

When we remember the death we do not laugh. So read that text which describes the scenes of the death. Sit with those people whose hearts are devoted to Allah.

• Avoid mixing with jokers
Do not sit with those who laugh too much. It is said by Holy Prophet (PBUH) that:-

"If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much, and you would go out to the hills, beseeching Allah for help."

• Change the subject
When the subject is becoming a reason to laugh you then try to change the subject. So the Muslim must first suppress his own laughter. We should tell to others too about the disadvantages of excessive laughter. Laughter causes to forget about Allah.

• Think about Sunnah

We should think about Sunnah. Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was used to smile only. He never laughed. So keep in mind the Sunnah and save your heart.

May Allah Help us to live our life according to Islam and to follow Sunnah in every action (Ameen).
