The foundation of every action is Intention
Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said that:-
"Verily actions are by intentions, and for every person is what he intended. So the one whose ‘hijrah’ (migration) was to Allaah and His Messenger, then his ‘hijrah’ was to Allaah and His Messenger. And the one whose ‘hijrah’ was for the world to gain from it, or a woman to marry her, then his ‘hijrah’ was for what he made ‘hijrah’ for."
Intention (Niyah) is the foundation of every action. Basically all the deeds are based on our intention. Every Muslim has strong believe on the importance of intention. Due to the intentions the deeds are weakened of strengthened. Intention is the soul of every action. Intention refers to the firm intent of the heart. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that:-
"People will be gathered upon their intentions."
Intention is not only to say words by tongue but it is basically a driven force from heart. It is a will of the person and that will directs the person to perform a deed for the sake of Allah. A Muslim, as a result, also believes that your permissible act can become an act of worthy and obedience connected with reward and also recompense. When we do every little act with a pure intention we are rewarded. It is said by Holy Prophet that:-
“Even for the bite of food which the Muslim puts in the mouth of his wife there will be a reward granted by Allah (SWT).
Many people do exercise but when one do exercise with this intention to make his body fit for physical worship then he will be rewarded by Allah Almighty. When we start a good action and cannot complete it Allah Almighty even gives him reward.
“Whoso emigrates in the way of Allah will find many refuges and vast expanses in the eart. Further, whoso abandons his home, as an immigrant to Allah and His Messenger, but death overtakes him, surely, his reward is due with Allah. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.”
The good intention makes doing the lawful/Halal thing an act of obedience. Moreover, when the Muslim satisfies his desires through Halal means, it makes him closer to Allah Almighty. Intention is the supporting pillar of the deed. When a Muslim perform a deed regularly and then he becomes ill or cannot perform the deed because of some serious reasons Allah Almighty even then rewards him.
When a person makes the intention of good deed and cannot perform it he get the reward. It is mentioned in hadith that:-
“The one who intends to do a good deed and he does not do it, he will get rewarded for it as if he did it. And if he does it, his reward will be multiplied ten times.”
But when a person makes the intention of doing an evil action and does not perform it then it will not be written as evil actions.
We should make our intention for the sake of Allah Almighty. May Allah help us to make the pure intentions (amen).
